In CRUSHING ON LOVE…
Steve Johnson is living his life’s passion watching over the Colorado Mountains as a ranger and wildlife consultant. But his peaceful life is upended when overzealous and insanely beautiful Shannon Braden flits back into his life after returning from a brief trip home to Maryland. He thought his attraction to her was under control—after all, she’s only in Colorado temporarily, and he doesn’t do casual affairs.
Shannon’s return to Colorado has as much to do with the game of cat and mouse she and Steve have been playing as it does the data she’s been hired to collect. But despite her efforts to explore the undeniable heat simmering between them, Steve’s intent on keeping his distance.
When a ranch abutting the national park goes up for sale, Steve will do whatever it takes to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. And when all his attempts fail, he’s left with no alternative but to follow Shannon’s guidance into the online world he abhors in order to raise the funds. The more time they spend together, the deeper their attraction becomes, and a game of cat and mouse turns into an unstoppable connection. But when Shannon’s assignment comes to an end, will it mean an end to them, too?
The Bradens are part of the Love in Bloom big family romance collection. Characters from each sub-series appear in future books.
My review of Crushing on Love:
I’m going to start by saying that I honestly did not expect to love this novel as much as I did! This was my first time reading Melissa Foster and I knew I would like it because it’s romance, but I absolutely fell in love with this book – especially Steve. He may be the most adorably desirable character I’ve encountered in a novel, now, if only he was real!
Steve lives a fairly solitary life in the mountains of Colorado working as a ranger and with wildlife. Shannon appears at the cabin near his to study foxes, but when they last met at a wedding, there was already chemistry. So part of why she’s there on the assignment may have something to do with the sexy, smart, incredibly sweet and quiet – Steve…. Shannon is straight up not long after arriving, expressing her interest in Steve, but he tries to shut her down saying that he doesn’t do casual sex and that she won’t be there long. But when Steve starts trying to save some land that is going on the market, him and Shannon are thrown together more and more to work on the project. It doesn’t take long before the two can’t resist each other any longer, but the question constantly lingers, “what happens when it’s time for her to return home to Peaceful Harbor?”
Again, I truly loved this novel, although I must admit it may have quite a bit to do with Steve. The writing is great and fast-paced, and I loved how the author wrote and described Shannon’s character as so real. The way Shannon’s character was developed, she honestly felt like a normal girl that I would be friends with. She never bothers with socks, talks non-stop (as do I), and gets so excited over any and everything, in a silly but cute way. As much as I liked Shannon, Steve is what really won me over. Everything about him was so incredibly adorable and attractive, there just aren’t enough words to describe how yummy he is.
Besides my obvious love for Steve, I really enjoyed the story and how she was trying so hard to figure out what she wants to do with her life professionally, as Steve completely steps out of his comfort zone with the land project. This is one of those novels where you find yourself cheering and hoping that they make it as a couple from the very first page.
My only complaint, which isn’t criticism of the writing, is that I have not read any of the others in this series, so I did get confused about who was who. There were so many people and couples mentioned and considering that I had not read any of these, I struggled with who was related to who and who was married to who, and so on. However, it wasn’t really relevant to this story, so I just kind of rolled with it.
I am really excited to be a part of this blog tour and hope that all of my readers will check out Melissa Foster – if you have not already done so, and definitely grab a copy of Crushing on Love. Everything about it is just a fun and feel-good romance!
