Book Review: “To Have and to Hold”

“To Have and to Hold,” by Lauren Layne

Publisher: Pocket Books; July 26, 2016

to haveSynopsis: Discovering her fiancé is an international con man just moments before they exchange vows devastates celebrity wedding planner Brooke Baldwin’s business—and breaks her heart. Now a pariah in Los Angeles, she seeks a fresh start in New York City and thinks she’s found it with her first bridal client, a sweet—if slightly spoiled—hotel heiress. Then she meets the uptight businessman who’s holding the purse strings.

Seth Tyler wishes he could write a blank check and be done with his sister Maya’s fancy-pants wedding. Unfortunately, micromanaging the event is his only chance at proving Maya’s fiancé is a liar. Standing directly in his way is the stunning blonde wedding planner whose practiced smiles and sassy comebacks both irritate and arouse him. He needs Brooke’s help. But can he persuade a wedding planner on a comeback mission to unplan a wedding? And more importantly, how will he convince her that the wedding she should be planning…is theirs?

Five days from now, you must get this book! I just read “To Have and to Hold” today and was blown away! This really was a fantastic read that I couldn’t put down once starting. First, I loved all of the main characters – Seth, Brooke, Maya, and Grant – as well as, some of Brooke’s new colleagues at Wedding Belles and Seth’s assistant, Etta. The author created incredibly believable, but uniquely interesting characters in this novel, and you will quickly fall in love with them all. At times I am confused as to why there is so much tension between Seth and Brooke, especially because I wanted them together immediately, but the tension just adds to the suspense of what will happen with them. Seth’s character is incredibly sexy  even when he’s not as polite as he could be. Brooke is strong and smart but is also doubtful about love because of being deceived by her previous love.

Layne’s writing is perfectly descriptive creating visuals in your mind of the intense looks and moments between Seth and Brooke throughout the novel, making you completely believe how in love they are with one another, despite wanting to admit it. My only complaint about this novel is that it ended. I really wanted more from Seth and Brooke and was hoping that their story would continue, but I looked at the next in The Wedding Belles series and saw that the focus is Heather. Heather is great, but I can’t help but wonder about Seth and Brooke’s future! This is a light-hearted, quick read but is still packed with love and emotion. Put “To Have and to Hold” on your to-be-read list and grab a copy on release day!
